DETAILS

Safe and Equal’s Prevention in Practice training supports practitioners at any stage of their careers to strengthen their shared understanding, connect with other practitioners and bolster their professional toolkits with the resources, tools and frameworks to mobilise communities and workplaces for change. This course is delivered online in four x 2.5-hour sessions over two days.

We can all be a part of the collective movement for gender equality. Primary prevention workforce is growing, with work being lead and facilitated by practitioners across a range of organisations, settings and roles.  Not everyone has a shared understanding of gender equality and how it intersects with other forms of oppression. People might be actively resistant to working towards gender equality and many people may not have the information they need to implement long-term social change.

Primary prevention is an evidence-based approach to dismantle and transform the oppressive patriarchal systems that drive gender-based violence. As an emerging movement against the status quo, this work is often undermined, devalued and not prioritised, so building momentum takes time. We need to build the confidence and expertise of practitioners to implement evidence-based program design that engages people with diverse identities.

Community and workplace programs that centre the primary prevention of gender-based violence can start catalytic conversations and bring everyone along on the journey. When these programs are designed, implemented and evaluated by primary prevention practitioners, we can realise better ways of connecting within our communities.

Primary prevention practitioners often work in isolation within their organisation and need support to sustain themselves in their work. A highly engaged and supported workforce will be more equipped to contribute to the long-term goal of preventing violence before it begins.

Safe and Equal’s Prevention in Practice training supports practitioners just starting out in prevention work, or for those that want to strengthen their shared understanding, connect with other practitioners and bolster their professional toolkits with the resources, tools and frameworks to mobilise communities and workplaces for change.
