DETAILS

Learn to transform interpersonal resistance from a barrier into a powerful tool for building momentum and creating lasting change.
The aim of primary prevention work is to mobilise people to transform practices and beliefs to create a culture that is equitable and prioritises safety, care and respect. When challenging the status quo, you are bound to encounter resistance and pushback.

Resistance comes in many forms, from simple denial to backlash, and can be subtle or overt and coordinated. But what if you could turn those moments of resistance into opportunities for growth and connection?

Unpacking Resistance is a training program designed to help you do just that. We know you're passionate about mobilising communities and transforming the attitudes that drive gender-based violence. This course gives you the tools to manage the interpersonal pushback that comes with primary prevention work.

This 5-hour virtual training is built around your core values and real-world needs.  You’ll develop a deep understanding of interpersonal resistance, how broader contexts shape and influence the way in which resistance shows up in conversations.

It moves beyond surface-level reactions to explore what’s really at the heart of it. We'll show you how to anchor difficult conversations in shared values like curiosity, respect and accountability and look after yourself in this work.

This training goes beyond theory, focusing on practical skills that make a difference. We'll equip you with evidence-based strategies and build on real-world examples to help you turn resistance into a catalyst for change.

Through storytelling, small-group activities and role-play scenarios, you’ll apply new strategies and see firsthand how to navigate complex conversations. You'll leave feeling more confident, prepared and ready to make a greater impact.

What you will learn:

  • Build understanding of the forms and causes of interpersonal resistance
  • Build understanding of how contexts and factors influence progress and resistance
  • The skills to open dialogue and feel more confident in having challenging conversations

This Unpacking Resistance training can be completed as a standalone. Practitioners looking for further training should also explore Organisational Resistance.
