By learning how to be an active bystander through Small Steps: Bystander Action for Equality, you can safely and effectively challenge sexist attitudes in your personal and professional life. This 4-hour virtual course is designed for workplaces and individuals.  

We all deserve to be treated with respect and care.  

Sexist attitudes still exist. It can look like throw away comments, unkind remarks or disrespectful jokes. It can happen anywhere, from family BBQs to boardrooms or sporting events.  

It can feel uncomfortable or overwhelming to do something about it, especially when the person displaying this behaviour is in a position of power, doesn't see things from your perspective, or disregards people's wellbeing. There is still a stigma around speaking up. Our instincts can kick in, and you may not know where to start.  

You can take it one step at a time. There are many ways that you can start to create change. By learning how to be an active bystander through Small Steps: Bystander Action for Equality, you can safely and effectively challenge sexist attitudes in your personal and professional life.  

Learn how to stand up and take care of others in different ways. Explore simple and effective steps you can take to increase your confidence and speak up. Walk away feeling like you can take action that aligns with your values.

Who is this for?

Community members‚ human resources officers, community development workers, primary prevention officers.  

We welcome everyone with an interest in creating safe, equitable and inclusive spaces to participate in this training 

This is an entry-level course‚ and no prior knowledge of bystander approaches or primary prevention practice is necessary.
  • The evidence, prevalence, and impact of violence against women in Australia, and the role of primary prevention
  • The important role of bystander actions in primary prevention, creating respectful and equitable environments, personally and professionally
  • Evidence-based understanding of the knowledge and skills needed to identify violence-supportive attitudes and the gendered drivers of violence against women and family violence
  • Strategies for challenging violence-supportive practices‚ attitudes and behaviours that relate to the gendered drivers

  • Training cost: AUD $250
  • This 4-hour training will be delivered virtually via Safe and Equal
  • Includes a range of activities, from group conversations, self-reflection, and the opportunity to put bystander action strategies into practice.
